These air fryer egg rolls are crispy, delicious and so much healthier than fried egg rolls. I can’t wait for you to try them for yourself!
Air fryer egg rolls are quick to make and one of my favorite air fryer recipes. The best part is, you can make these with any meat choice that you prefer.
I used ground chicken for this recipe, but you can use ground turkey, ground pork, ground beef or make a vegetarian egg roll with tofu.
How to use the air fryer:
An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that is essentially a convection oven. It uses hot air and a condensed space to cook food quickly, while making it crispy. You only need to spray the food item with a little coconut oil or cooking spray to get a crispy result.
Tips for use:
- Preheat the air fryer for a few minutes before you put in your food.
- Spray your food with cooking spray to get a nice, crispy crust.
- Use the crisper basket and/or rack to crisp the whole surface area of the food.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket.
- Save the sauce for the last part of cooking so as not to dry it or burn.
And remember the air fryer is a great way to make recipes healthier. If you need some other inspiration check out my Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts with Honey and Sriracha or Air Fryer Chicken Legs- Drumsticks.
The Best Air Fryer Egg Rolls:
The trick with making egg rolls in the air fryer is to make them mini. I have found that the mini ones become much more crispy and they cook more evenly.
I found that when I tested some of the larger egg rolls, they were more likely to cook unevenly.
What’s great about making this yummy recipe is you can make a bunch of the mini rolls and freeze them for later use. You can also use the filling recipe to make egg roll bowls like this one below.
How to Make Egg Roll Bowls:
For the egg roll bowl recipe just take the extra rice stick noodles and top it with the filling mixture. Drizzle with Thai red chili sauce and wonton strips and it makes for a quick and easy dinner in a bowl.
You can also make a large batch of the filling and make it into a freezer meal! Have half for bowls and half for egg rolls that you can pop in the freezer for a day you don’t want to cook.
How to freeze egg rolls:
If you decide to make the egg rolls to freeze for a later day, you can flash freeze them on a cookie sheet for about an hour to prevent them from sticking and freezing together. Then pop them all into a gallon ziploc bag to freeze for up to three months.
Frozen egg rolls in air fryer:
You can cook the frozen egg rolls directly in the air fryer as well.
Just a note there are several things that will affect the cooking time for air fryer recipes. Cooking frozen items in the air fryer is one of them.
For frozen egg rolls the cooking time will depend on the size, thickness of the wrapper and the density of the filling. So just keep that in mind when you are cooking them in the air fryer. You may need to adjust the time below.
When you are ready to cook the egg rolls it is important to cook them straight from the freezer. If you thaw the egg rolls they can become gummy an won’t air fry as well.
