Copycat Olive Garden Breadsticks

Spread the love

Warm, fluffy copycat Olive Garden breadsticks are a perfect side dish for a big bowl of soup. These bread sticks are easy to make, take under an hour and taste just like the breadsticks at the popular restaurant chain The Olive Garden.

Everyone needs a good copycat Olive Garden breadstick recipe in their lives. Especially when they only take an hour to make.

These breadsticks go great with a big bowl of soup or a yummy salad. Try them the next time you need a delicious dinner roll or bread choice.

This recipe is very simple and uses ingredients you probably already have on hand.

Ingredient You Will Need:

Here are the basic ingredients you will need to make these breadsticks.

Water: The water should be lukewarm. Make sure the water is not too hot or it will kill your yeast. If the water is cold it won’t activate the yeast properly.

Dry Active Yeast: Always check your yeast before using it. Make sure it is not expired as well. Old yeast will not activate properly.

Sugar: Sugar helps to activate and feed the yeast. This recipe calls for granulated sugar.

Butter: We add some butter to the dough and also for the top of the breadsticks. I love Kerrygold butter!

Salt: I love Redmonds Real Salt for cooking. This salt is packed with minerals and is a healthier option than table salt.

Bread Flour: If you don’t have bread flour you can also use all purpose flour. Bread flour helps to make these breadsticks extra fluffy so if you have it I would definitely use it!

Garlic Salt: This is what makes these breadsticks so delicious! Don’t be shy on the garlic salt topping.

How To Make Copycat Olive Garden Breadsticks:

To make these breadsticks add the yeast to a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.

Add sugar and water and let sit for 5 minutes to activate the yeast.

Add the butter, flour and salt and knead on low speed for 3 minutes.

Place the dough on a clean work surface and roll into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.

Cut into 1 inch strips (you can get about 12 breadsticks out of the dough).

Roll each strip into a long oval shaped breadstick and place on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Cover with a clean kitchen towel and rise for 45 minutes in a warm place.

When the dough has risen preheat the oven to 400 F. Brush with melted butter.

Sprinkle liberally with garlic salt. Bake for 12 minutes.

When done brush with more melted butter and serve.

Flavor Variations:

Change up these delicious breadsticks with some fun and delicious topping ideas. Here are some of my favorites!

jalapeno cheese: Top with shredded cheddar cheese and pickled tamed jalapenos.

cinnamon sugar: Top with melted butter and cinnamon sugar.

pizza: Top with tomato sauce, pepperoni and cheese.

everything but the bagel: Top with melted butter and everything but the bagel seasoning.

parmesan cheese: Top with melted butter and grated parmesan cheese.

Storage:

Store these breadsticks in an air tight container for up to 3 days. You can also freeze these breadsticks for up to 3 months in a freezer ziplock bag.

What are bread sticks used for:

Breadsticks are an amazing side dish to serve soup, salad, pasta or other Italian dishes.

They work great for soaking up delicious pasta sauces like my authentic bolognese or dip them into this easy and delicious minestrone soup
